Which type of denture is right for you?
It depends on how many teeth you have left and how secure you want the denture to feel.
| Complete denture | Partial denture | Implant-supported denture | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who it’s for | No natural teeth left in that jaw | Some healthy teeth remain | Missing all teeth, wanting a secure fit |
| How it stays in | Suction and a close fit to the gums | Clasps onto your natural teeth | Snaps onto two or more implants |
| Removable? | Yes | Yes | Snap-in types: yes, for cleaning |
| Jawbone | Can shrink over time | Can shrink under the gaps | Helps keep the bone |
Snap-in dentures need dental implants placed first. Comparing all your options? See ways to replace missing teeth.

How your dentures are made
- Consultation. Dr. Sayeed checks your gums, any remaining teeth and your bite, and talks through the options.
- Impressions. Precise impressions of your mouth make sure the denture fits closely.
- Try-in. You see and approve the shape, color and fit of the teeth before the final denture is made.
- Fitting. Your dentures are fitted and adjusted so there are no sore spots.
- Follow-up. Short visits in the first weeks fine-tune the fit as your mouth gets used to them.
Can I get dentures in one day?
Custom dentures take several visits, because each step checks the fit and look.
Immediate dentures
If teeth need to be removed, an immediate denture can often be made in advance and fitted at the same visit as your extractions, so you don’t go without teeth while your gums heal.
As the gums shrink over the next few months, the immediate denture is relined or replaced with a final one.
Denture repairs and relines
Dentures need adjusting as your mouth changes. A denture that rubs, slips or clicks usually doesn’t fit properly any more.
- Relines: new material is added to the fitting surface so a loose denture fits snugly again.
- Repairs: bring in a cracked denture or a broken tooth and Dr. Sayeed will check whether it can be repaired.
- Replacement: most dentures last 5 to 10 years before the teeth wear down or the fit can’t be corrected.
How much do dentures cost?
The cost depends on the type of denture and how many teeth it replaces. You get the full cost in writing before treatment starts.
- Lowest cost: a complete or partial denture is usually the least expensive way to replace many teeth.
- Insurance: most dental plans treat dentures as a basic or major procedure and pay part of it. We work with CSEA and Kingston Trust Fund plans and most PPO plans, and check your benefits before you commit.
- Medicare: Original Medicare doesn’t cover dentures. Some Medicare Advantage plans include dental benefits, so check your plan.
- Spreading the cost: CareCredit and Cherry let you pay over time.

How long do dentures last?
Usually 5 to 10 years. Your jaw changes shape over time, so regular checkups and relines keep the fit comfortable.
Do immediate dentures look fake?
No. The teeth are shaded and shaped to suit your face. They may need adjusting as your gums heal, which also keeps them looking natural.
Should people with dentures still see a dentist?
Yes. A yearly checkup lets Dr. Sayeed check the fit, your gums and any remaining teeth, and screen for mouth problems.
What is a better option than regular dentures?
For many people, implant-supported dentures. They snap onto implants, so they don’t slip when you eat or talk.
Can I sleep in my dentures?
Take them out at night if you can. It gives your gums a rest, and you can soak and clean the dentures while you sleep.
